Kush Empire pyramids at Jebel Barkal, Sudan

Description

Ancient pyramids built by the Kush Empire, near Karima, Sudan. This was a royal cemetery dating back to the Meroitic kingdom. The oldest burials date back to the 3rd century BC. The Kush Empire conquered Egypt in the 8th century BC and ruled for around a century. There are around 255 pyramids in Sudan - nearly twice as many as in Egypt.
